Bought a New Home in Joplin? Do These Tasks First
So you just moved into your new home in the Joplin area, what an exciting time! If you’re anything like me, you’re already picking out decor and new furniture and deciding on paint schemes long before you actually move in. Before you get into the fun stuff though, here are a few basics you should cover first.
Change those locks!
Even if you have been promised that new locks have been installed in your home, you can never be too careful. Plus, it’s nice to have that peace of mind knowing that no one else has a set of keys to your home. Changing the locks can be a DIY project, or you can call in a locksmith for a little extra money.
Steam clean the carpets
If you didn’t make this part of your negotiation, it’s a good idea to have them cleaned before you start placing furniture around. The previous owners may have had pets, young children, or may have not made it a habit to keep it cleaned. Take the time to steam clean the carpets so that your floors are free of stains and allergens. It’s pretty easy and affordable to rent a steam cleaner-they can be found at the local grocery stores.
Call an exterminator
Did you look for any pests that might have been lurking around the home? Call an exterminator to take care of any mice, insects, and other critters that may be hiding out.
Clean out the kitchen
This is one of those areas that a lot of previous occupants want to skip on and tend to cut corners when it comes to cleaning before they move out. Wipe down the cabinets, clean out the refrigerator, oven, and clean in the nooks and crannies underneath the appliances.
